MOONSTONE ACADEMY

In year admissions

Applying to Moonstone Academy outside of the regular admission periods.

Occasionally, spaces open up within year groups at Moonstone Academy. This offers a chance for students who may have missed the initial application window, weren’t able to secure a place earlier, or are new to the area, to join our academy. When this occurs, we are always excited to welcome fresh faces into our academy community.

EXTERNAL IN YEAR ADMISSIONS (KS3 /KS4) - YEARS 7 TO YEAR 11

To be considered for In-Year admission at Moonstone Academy, applicants must reside within our defined Inner Area (detailed below). While we do accept applications from families living outside this area, the chances of success are limited due to high demand from applicants within the Inner Area. Should a student from outside the Inner Area be offered a place, the family must provide proof of relocation to the specified area before the offer can be finalized.

The following postcodes are eligible for admission:

W1, WC1, WC2, W5, W7, W9, W10, W11, SW4, SW6, SW8, SW9, SE5, SE9, SE10, N10, N12, N13, N14, N15, N16, N18, N19, N20, N21, N22, EC3, EC4, E2, E4, E5, E8, E9, E17, EN1, EN2, EN3, EN4, EN5 (only Sectors 1, 2, 4, and 5).

Applicants who completed the assessment tests during the secondary transfer process (Year 6) will have their ranking maintained until December 31st. If a Year 7 vacancy arises between the start of the academic year and this date, the next applicant on the waiting list will be offered the place.

For any vacancies in Years 7-11 that may come up after December 31st, parents are required to fill out the Enfield Borough In-Year admissions form. Enfield Admissions will handle the coordination of these vacancies at Moonstone Academy.

If a student’s name is removed from the academy’s register, the academy will contact applicants on the relevant waiting list and schedule testing within four weeks of the removal date, excluding any school closure periods. Applications will be accepted until one week before the scheduled test. Any unsuccessful applicants will remain on the waiting list for any future vacancies that arise during the academic year. Offers will be made based on the results of the English and Mathematics tests, with applicants ranked in order of performance, with rank 1 being the highest.

For Year 11 vacancies, the same procedures apply, but the testing will also include Sciences. Applicants will be ranked by their scores in English, Mathematics, and Science, with rank 1 being the top score.

The tests are designed to align with the age-appropriate curriculum and are created by the academy’s Heads of Department; they are not multiple-choice.

The academy will offer places only up to the number of vacancies available in each year group. For example, if a single Year 8 vacancy becomes available, only one place will be offered.

Please note that the academy only admits students who meet the Grammar School criteria, including Looked After Children.

In the event of a tie, where applicants have identical test scores, the place will be offered to the student living closest to the academy, based on the local authority’s distance measurement.

We aim to provide test results within 15 school days after the tests have been completed, although this may be subject to unforeseen delays. Applicants who are unsuccessful have the right to appeal, and detailed information will be provided in the results letter.

There are no practice papers available for In-Year admissions. For more information about our curriculum, please visit our Curriculum page.

The waiting list will close at the end of each academic year. If you wish to continue your child’s application for the following year, a new In-Year application must be submitted through Enfield Admissions.

“At Moonstone Academy, we are dedicated to providing exceptional support to ensure our students have the opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive and reach their full potential, both academically and in the broader community.”
