COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS
Dear Parents and Friends of Moonstone Academy,
Moonstone Academy is one of the largest and highest achieving co-educational selective schools in England, supported by the Moonstone Foundation. The Board of Governors provides strategic direction and holds the school’s management accountable, ensuring that financial resources are used effectively, staff are deployed purposefully, and students have access to a diverse range of academic and extracurricular activities in a safe environment. Governors also ensure that the school adheres to all legal requirements.
There are 14 Governors, seven of whom are Foundation Governors appointed by the Moonstone Foundation. Serving as a Governor is both challenging and rewarding, offering a meaningful opportunity to contribute to our local community. We dedicate our time, experience, and expertise as volunteers because we believe in the school’s vision, values, and strategic direction, which will ensure it continues to provide the highest quality education for our students and supports each child in reaching their full potential.

The responsibilities of the School Governor and the Governing Body
The governing board plays a crucial role in a school’s success, as it collaborates with the school to ensure the delivery of high-quality education. The main responsibilities of the governing board are to:
- Ensure a clear vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
- Hold the headteacher accountable for the school’s educational performance, student outcomes, and staff performance management.
- Oversee the school’s financial performance and ensure resources are used effectively.
The governing board has a strategic role, with key functions that include:
- Defining the school’s aims and objectives.
- Establishing policies to achieve those aims and objectives.
- Setting targets to measure progress towards those aims and objectives.
- Monitoring and assessing the school’s progress in meeting its goals.
- Holding the school leadership accountable for its performance.
The Headteacher is accountable for the internal organization, management, and control of the school, as well as for implementing the strategic framework set by the governing board.
Our governors serve a term of four years. The Governing Board is composed of the Headteacher, three elected parent governors, one elected staff governor, one local authority governor, nine foundation governors, and one co-opted governor.
