About the Sixth Form
Moonstone Academy’s Sixth Form, which accommodates around 210 students in Years 12 and 13, received an outstanding rating from Ofsted in March 2023.
At Moonstone Academy, we warmly welcome applications from all students, and the Sixth Form offers a dynamic and inclusive environment for academic growth. While the majority of Year 11 students continue on to Year 12, we also look forward to expanding our community by inviting new applicants.
The academic performance in the Sixth Form is exceptional, with students benefiting from expert instruction by specialized teachers, including native speakers in the Languages Department. Each form group consists of just 15-20 students, which offers a tremendous advantage—providing more personalized attention, greater opportunities for participation, and the ability to ask more questions.
The academy also places significant emphasis on instilling in students the skills and values needed to positively influence the wider community. Much like in the lower school, our staff strive to help Sixth Form students gain practical knowledge, nurture their curiosity, and approach their studies with confidence.
At the academy’s Sixth Form, the majority of students continue their academic journey, thriving in a learning environment where they meet the high expectations set by the staff with enthusiasm and dedication. (Ofsted, 2023)
Sixth Form students can access financial assistance through the government’s 16 to 19 Bursary Fund. Depending on individual circumstances, students who qualify could receive up to £1,200 to cover expenses like books, supplies, meals, and travel.
Subjects offered in the Sixth Form
The Sixth Form offers a rigorous curriculum that motivates students to acquire a thorough understanding of their A-level subjects. This leads to outstanding academic achievements.

All the textbooks and e-books necessary for the Sixth Form curriculum are provided by the school. However:
- Students may find it helpful to have personal copies of certain materials (e.g., modern language dictionaries), though textbooks are not required for course completion. Subscriptions to journals and magazines (e.g., Politics Review) may be encouraged, but all such resources are available in the school library.
- Some subjects require fieldwork, while others recommend educational trips. For compulsory trips, students cover food and accommodation costs, while the full cost of optional trips will be requested. Financial assistance is available for any trips, with each request considered individually. For more details, please contact the Deputy Head – Sixth Form.
“At Moonstone Academy, we are dedicated to providing exceptional support to ensure our students have the opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive and reach their full potential, both academically and in the broader community.”
