Discover more about our Form Groups and House system.

Form teams and Year levels

In Years 7-11, each year group comprises 192 students, organized into six Form Groups, each aligned with one of the school’s houses. These Form Groups remain constant throughout the years, from Year 7 to Year 11. They gather daily for registration, and also take part in extended form sessions and assemblies, which occur three times during a two-week timetable cycle.

During Years 7 and 8, students are primarily taught within their own Form Groups for most subjects. From Year 9 onward, they continue to meet in their Form Groups for morning registration, pastoral activities, and some lessons. However, to encourage stronger connections across the year group, students will also experience some lessons alongside peers from different Form Groups.

Form Tutors stay with their assigned group throughout the years, building deep, supportive relationships with the students. In Years 7 and 8, they also lead the delivery of Relationship and Sex Education within the Personal Development Curriculum.

THE MOONSTONE HOUSE SYSTEM

The House System is a core part of Moonstone Academy’s enduring legacy. With each house named in honor of influential historical figures and supporters, our three houses are:

  • Thompson : Oliver Thompson served as Headmaster of the academy from 1940 to 1948.
  • Bennett : James Bennett, M.B.A., LL.B, was Headmaster starting in 1925.
  • Anderson : Lily Anderson (1882-1901) was the founder of our school.

The House System is central to the experience at our academy. When students first arrive, they are placed into one of the houses according to their Form Group, allowing them to connect with peers from all year groups through house events and activities. This encourages the development of a supportive, close-knit community, where relationships thrive across different age groups.

House activities are primarily managed by the academy’s Senior Pupils, but Senior House staff are also essential in motivating students and organizing events and assemblies. The houses engage in friendly competition through a range of sports, including netball, tennis, football, and hockey, along with music and drama contests. Points are awarded based on the outcome of each competition, and at the end of the year, the house with the highest score takes home the Dormer Shield, while the second-place house receives the Jones Cup.

The house colours are :

  • Thompson : Light Orange
  • Bennett : Forest Green
  • Anderson : Purple

The House System gives students a meaningful opportunity to contribute positively to society. Every year, the houses organize charitable activities and raise vital funds for both local and national causes. Students play an active role in selecting the charity their house will support and deciding the best ways to fundraise. Key events throughout the year include the Christmas Bazaar, organized by Bennett and Anderson, cake sales, Valentine’s Day letter campaigns, and non-uniform days.

“At Moonstone Academy, we are dedicated to providing exceptional support to ensure our students have the opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive and reach their full potential, both academically and in the broader community.”
