Protecting and supporting the welfare of children is a collective responsibility for everyone.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
HOUSE SYSTEM
Anyone who interacts with children, as well as their families and caregivers, plays a part in protecting children. To carry out this duty properly, all professionals must ensure their approach is focused on the child. This involves always considering what is in the child’s best interests.
The definition of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children (Keeping Children Safe in Education) involves:
- Providing immediate support to address children’s needs as soon as problems are identified.
- Safeguarding children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Preventing any harm to children’s mental, emotional, or physical well-being.
- Ensuring children grow up in safe, nurturing environments with proper care.
- Taking proactive steps to ensure every child has the opportunity to achieve the best outcomes.
Safeguarding at the moonstone academy
Safeguarding is a key priority in our work at Moonstone Academy. We collaborate closely with children, families, and relevant statutory bodies to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Our commitment is to provide a safe environment where children can learn, grow, and achieve their potential. We maintain a culture of transparency, where students, staff, and visitors are encouraged to raise any concerns related to safeguarding.
At Moonstone Academy, we recognize and respect the importance of diversity, including race, culture, gender, and disability. However, we firmly believe that these aspects should never hinder the reporting of concerns about children’s safety and welfare. All individuals within our community—including teachers, non-teaching staff, temporary and supply staff, administrative and support staff, volunteers, as well as external staff working on-site and those engaging with families—carry a moral and legal obligation to protect and promote the welfare of children. All staff are expected to be fully informed and familiar with our Safeguarding policy (which can be accessed on our policies page). They must stay alert for any safeguarding issues and report them to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Deputies, or Headteacher.
Our staff code of conduct clearly emphasizes our expectation of high standards of care for all students. We are proactive in identifying signs of abuse or neglect and follow established procedures to ensure that children receive the necessary protection and support. Staff undergo regular safeguarding training and are well-equipped with the knowledge of how to report concerns within the academy. The Child Protection Team consists of experienced senior staff who are trained to an advanced level in safeguarding. All training is regularly updated to reflect the latest developments in legislation and safeguarding practices.
Our academy works in partnership with the three safeguarding partners:
- Metropolitan Police Service
- Enfield Council
- The NHS (National Health Service)
In cases where a child is in immediate danger, please dial 999 to contact the police.

YOUFIRST App
Reporting a concern outside regular school hours and during holiday periods.
If you or your child have a concern after school hours, over the weekend, or during the holidays, it’s essential to seek the proper assistance in an emergency.
Although we are committed to helping our students with any issues or concerns, please understand that staff are not expected to check their school emails outside of regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and during holidays, and will not be available for support during these times.
Attempting to contact teachers outside of these hours may delay the urgent support you or others require. For emotional well-being and mental health assistance, students can refer to the ‘Useful Numbers’ and ‘Information Websites’ sections in their planner to access available organizations.
- Call 999 if you believe you are in immediate danger and need urgent assistance from the police or emergency services.
- If you believe a friend is in immediate danger, also call 999 to ensure they receive prompt support.
- Alternatively, you can inform your parent/carers about the situation, or ask them to contact the relevant authorities.
- You can also inform your friend’s parents/carers about the situation if they are in danger and need urgent help.
- Students and/or parents/carers should feel free to contact the police directly, or get in touch with the local authority where you live for further action.
- If you’re uncertain about how to proceed, you can contact the MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub) in your local area for advice and support regarding safeguarding concerns.
