Equalities, diversity and inclusion
Our primary goal is to create an inclusive and secure environment for all students, irrespective of their background or identity, while ensuring that adequate support is accessible if they face any harm.
In 2019, following discussions with students inspired by the Black Lives Matter and Everyone’s Invited movements, we appointed an Equalities Officer, conducted an audit of our community, and created the Moonstone Academy Equalities Action Plan (MEAP). The MEAP project focuses on the characteristics protected by the Equalities Act (age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation), but may also highlight other issues beyond this scope.
To genuinely foster inclusivity and embrace diversity, Moonstone Academy and its members will dedicate themselves to upholding these principles moving forward:
We will consistently involve and empower students in the decision-making process regarding equality, diversity, and inclusion.
This effort will be ongoing and integrated into the everyday culture and environment of Moonstone Academy, not treated as something separate from daily life.
- Inclusion initiatives will include both individual ‘headline’ events and long-term, comprehensive changes.
The Senior Leadership Team collaborates with several important student-led groups within the school to advocate for equality, including the Anti-Racist Committee, the LGBTQ+ group, and the Feminist Society. These groups, along with other initiatives within the Moonstone Academy community, organize themed events such as Black History Month and Holocaust Memorial Day.
